My Name is John Bain. I recently moved to Southern California 8 months ago from Wilmington, Delaware right outside of Philadelphia, where I lived my entire life. I currently work as the Assistant Store Manager and Service Manager at Rock 'N' Road Cyclery in Mission Viejo, CA. I have been in the cycling industry for over 11 years. Rock 'N' Road is the most reputable race level bicycle store in Southern California. I have always been involved in slightly off the wall but unique hobbies and activities. I held the Guinness World Record for Creating the World's Largest Rubber Band Ball from 1999 to 2007. It weighs 3,300+ lbs. I am a National Champion Artistic Roller Skater and skated competitively for 18 years. I'm an avid road and mountain cyclist and have always been passionate about endurance and individual sports. I enjoy practicing self taught gymnastics and break dancing and recently within the last year I fell in love with riding a unicycle. I picked it up quickly and I ride Muni or Road just about every day of the week. Other than that I'm easy going, very down to earth and super excited about racing in Ride the Lobster! Thanks for putting on such an awesome event! John Bain

Growing up in Southern California, there were about a dozen unicyclists on my street. We did everything on them, I did not own a bicycle until I was 25. While getting my doctorate at college in Berkeley, California, I rode my early 70s Schwinn uni to school most days. Fast forward 23 years, after years of rock climbing, windsurfing, road biking, caving, kitesurfing, and ski mountaineering, racing mountain bikes had became my passion. Then I dicovered MUni, and I was hooked. I naturally gravitated to the road and bought my first Coker last year. I am in private practice Optometry in Mission Viejo and love my wife of 16 years, Susan. I am very excited about participating in Ride The Lobster!

I was born and raised in Minnesota and lived there all my life until a year ago when I moved to sunny Huntington Beach, California! I'm loving it, especially the fact that I can MUni (Mountain Unicycle), learn to surf and play disc golf all year long! I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and tried it for 3 years but I have decided that is not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I'd rather do something I love and am passionate about so I just recently opened up my own unicycle business called uniproshop. I have also started street performing on the side and enjoy entertaining people, making them smile and laugh (not too mention the pay is pretty good!). Last June, even though I'm a level 10 rider and have been riding for over 18 years, I was MUni'ing down some really technical trails for a LA Times photo shoot and I had a fluke fall in which I ended up breaking my back. It took a couple months before it healed and I could ride again so I am so happy to be back at it and competing in this race! It was pure torture not being able to ride all summer long!!

I have always loved unicycle events. RTL will be great. As a kid, competing at the National Unicycle Meets was the best part of the summer. Now, I enjoy trail riding and attending National Unicycle Conventions each summer with my kids. I would have loved to ride in RTL, but knee surgery in February will keep me from unicycling for a while.
