I started riding unicycles when I was eighteen, because it seemed like a logical skill to go with juggling. After a few years of riding I stopped unicycling for about ten years, but then my daughters (then aged about six and eight) decided that they wanted to learn, and since then we have spent many hours riding together, including playing unicycle hockey with the Lunis in London.
My introduction to long-distance unicycling was when I bought a 36" unicycle in 2004. I then decided that I should ride the 2005 Seattle to Portland bike classic, a two day 204 mile ride. I completed this shortly after my fortieth birthday, and while it was the toughest athletic achievement I've ever done, it was also very satisfying. When not riding I'm a computer game programmer for Microsoft.

9 years ago I dusted off the old unicycle in order to better walk the dog. Later that year I heard that the National Unicycle Championships would be coming to North Bend WA and so I met other unicyclists & began many long friendships. Now, I enjoy commuting to work by unicycle (I especially enjoy trying to get the bicycle riders I pass to wave back) and I do unicycle off-road. I also enjoy free-heel skiing and beer brewing. I am proud to be part of Team Puget Sounders (thanks, Tom, for giving up your place...there'll be some IPA for you!) and am very much looking forward to coming to Nova Scotia for this inaugural long-distance international unicycle race! I congratulate the other racers for mastering the skills to compete at this level. At work, I'm an engineer for a mechanical contractor involved in energy efficient new building construction and facility services. Much thanks to my wonderful wife Ruby who has endured my long commutes and kept the house stocked in band-aids!

I have self taught myself may things over the course of my life. I finally conquered riding a unicycles at age 46. This has developed into riding challenging long distance and hill climbing events against bicycles. This will be my first event with a possibility of other than taking both first and last in category. In 2007 I completed on unicycle the Silver Lake Time Trial, Seattle to Portland (STP) in two days, Mt. Baker Hill Climb, and over 5000 miles commuting and training. This includes three full mile centuries. In 2006 I completed my first full mile century doing half of the STP and rode major portions of the Ride Seattle To Vancouver and Party (RSVP). I also regularly commute to my work at Western Washington University and can be seen on the streets of Bellingham, WA year around rain, snow, or shine. It was wonderful to be able to help my adult son, Joshua, to conquer the unicycle this winter and join me riding.

My name is Lana; I am married to Joe Myers. When Joe started riding the unicycle I thought "will this man ever cease to amaze me"? He brought up the subject of riding in the Seattle To Portland race (STP) and I let him know I would support him in every way I could, even if it meant getting up at all times of the day or night regardless of the weather, be it rain, snow or beautiful sunrises, I have tried to be there for him. I am a student currently at Whatcom Community Collage in Bellingham, Washington. I am trying to finish my high school education, which I had put on hold to raise my family. (That was started to early in life). I enjoy meeting new people and making new friends. Most people would say I am reliable. Also someone that will help get things done. If I see a need I try to fulfill it, sometimes going out of my way to do so. I am looking forward to going to Nova Scotia with this team of men in their endeavor at the Ride The Lobster. I hope to be of encouragement and good support, and take care of them just like they are part of my family. GO! GO! GO!
