In addition to unicycling, I am an avid juggler. I like hiking and have a love/hate relationship with computers and other nerdy gadgets. I have a dog that is as devoted to me as I am to her, and just got a turtle. I love to travel all over the world, but don't particularly like cities.

When I'm not juggling or battling ferocious winds on my unicycle, I am involved in research and teaching at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona. My background in computer science allows me to teach a variety of programming courses while being involved in the "Bird Strike" research project (which may or may not be as menacing as it sounds). Juggling has been my main obsession over most of the last 12 years. Distance unicycling is new to me but I'm not a stranger to endurance events. I've competed in several triathlons, duathlons, and marathons (one of the marathons was completed while juggling). I am very excited to be able to participate in Ride the Lobster.

I grew up on a farm in Charlottesville, Virginia. My friend Tom Angleberger and I spent our summers in the Appalachian Mountains, where we learned to juggle and ride unicycles far from any paved roads. I attended college in Washington, D.C. and graduate school in California, where I am now a math professor at Cal State Long Beach. Juggling remains my primary hobby, taking me to performances with the National Circus of Laos, the San Francisco Opera, and the International Juggling Orchestra in Europe. However, I have always enjoyed unicycling on the side, and my uni(cycle) now gets me to my uni(versity) every day. I'm looking forward to riding the Lobster as a fun way to see Nova Scotia and meet some real unicyclists!

I won my first and only unicycle at a juggling festival. I've been trying to master it ever since. My other interests are art, juggling, and sand volleyball. I am looking forward to coming to Nova Scotia in June, in part because it will be 115 degrees Fahrenheit where I normally play.
