My name is Emily McCormick, I am in grade 8 and am 13 years old. I have been riding unicycles since I was 8 years old, for about five years. I fell in love with the sport after seeing a unicycle in a store and later getting one for Christmas. Shortly after I had joined the Toronto Unicyclists and have been riding ever since.

My name is Joshua McCormick and I'm 15 years old. I am currently in grade 9 going into grade 10. I started riding when I was 9 years old, the same time I joined the Toronto Unicyclist's. I have been riding with them for 6 years. For the last three years I'v been riding my coker... I also ride my muni but I'm more passionate about freestyle.

Christmas of '03, right before my 11th birthday, I received my first unicycle. It pretty much sat around until the January '05 Madfest juggling and unicycling festival, by the end of which I could go fifteen feet. Fifteen feet was enough to get me excited and I never stopped practicing, ultimately needing improved unicycles: first my older cousin's 20" retro Schwinn, later replaced by a stronger Nimbus 20" Hookworm Freestyle, then a giraffe was added, a 26" unicycle to commute to school, and this fall, a 36" (thanks to Eddie Moffat for the inspiration). My unicycling community in Madison, Wisconsin, includes college students who play UniHoki and a growing group of young unicyclists who have come together for the January '06, '07, and '08 "Celebrating Youth" circus festival unicycling performances (choreographed by my mom). We have evolved from the 'Wheeling Dervishes' also performing at Madfest 2007, in parades, and at the Zoo fundraiser, to an informal club called the 'Madison Unicyclists.' In 2007, at my first the North American Unicycle Competitions and Convention (NAUCC), I won gold medals in my age group: 1500 meter; 400m; 100m; 50m One-Foot; Obstacle Course (cones), the most overall racing points; plus a bronze medal in the big-wheel 10k race. The experience of being with over four hundred other unicyclists was astounding.
Although, unicycling is my passion, I like other sports too: skiing, wind surfing, biking, and cross country. I've also been lucky to travel quite a bit, enjoying other worlds and cultures. Music is a large part of my life, especially playing all types of percussion. I am technologically and mechanically inclined, having built unicycles and coded websites (for example, www.maduni.com). I've been really lucky in my life to see, do and have all these things. But its more than seeing, doing, and having, it's how you put it all together to let others see, do, and have.

Having joined the Toronto Unicyclists to learn unicycling as an ankle-friendly substitute for jogging, I quickly discovered the joy of the sport in its own right, and the fantastic community surrounding it. I'm looking forward to supporting Josh, Emily and Scott through a great race.
