Longer details:
Uni: Schlumpf 29" guni, 140mm cranks (I think)
Location: I rode around the Central Park (NYC) bike loop, which is almost exactly 10k around. The northernmost 1.5k is really hilly, up and down, coming in at about 100m of ascent and descent. The rest of the ride is much easier except for one long part that's not as steep as the tip of the loop but is still pretty tough.
Ride:
I rode the entire loop 5 times. I stopped briefly (3-6 mins) after each loop to replenish my tiny fanny pack Camelbak (.6L) and to pee. I'd consume some Clif cubes or a GU and head back to the loop. I noticed that my legs finally gave out on the 6th lap, and as I was nearing the tip, I decided to forgo the nasty bit and to head across to the starting point. The ride took from 8:30 am till just before noon. I generally didn't have to click into low gear; I rode the first 3 loops in high gear and used low gear on the super-hill after that. I went into low gear on a few other occasions near the end.
Problems and Things I Forgot:
I had one exhaustion-induced UPD (minor -- I caught the uni) and one minor guni-induced UPD when I failed to down-shift properly. I also forgot to bring wrist guards (luckily I didn't need them) or my iPod. The ride was pretty dull, so one Day 2 Imade sure to bring something to listen to. I also forgot gloves, so my hands were freezing since the temperature was below 50F at the outset; luckily it warmed up a bit. Oh, and I forgot to stretch. I'm not much of a stretcher. Still, I felt no soreness.
Avg Speeds:
I don't really ride slowly, so I tried to go at what felt like 85-90% strength. I found that I was averaging 13 mph (21 kph) for the first three loops and then slowed to about 12-12.25 mph (19.7 kph) for the next two. After that, I boinked, so my last partial lap was about 10 mph (16 kph). There were also a few miles of riding to and from my car which I'm not figuring into the averages, tho they counted for the riding. My over-all average was just under 12.4 mph, or about 20 kph.
Max Speeds: I hit top speeds ranging from 18-20 mph (29-32 kph).
Misc Details:
1. I spotted a woman wearing a Nova Scotia sweatshirt!
2. "Clear pee is happy pee." This was our mantra when I took firefighter training (in 100 degree heat) last summer. I made sure to hydrate yesterday and before and during the ride. I had to pee after each loop, and my fire instructors would have been happy about the results. I noticed that it hurt to pee after loop 4 but not the following times. I remember when I rode my century rides that it REALLY hurt to pee for two days afterwards, so I'm quite happy about today.
3. No seat problems -- the only things somewhat sore are my legs.
4. Number of "Entry of the Gladiator"s heard: 0!
5. "Where's your other wheel?": 1

I ran into bad traffic heading into Manhattan before Day 2, so I basically had to race around the loop with only short breaks. I managed to get the entire 5+ full loops (63k) done in 3 hours. Interestingly, I was less tired and less sore than Day 1. I continued to hydrate well and enjoyed having my iPod, which I kept at low volume.
Max Speed on Day 2 was about 21 mph, and my fastest lap was the 2nd, where I averaged 13+ mph.
